Inside Composio EQ: DEMI’s Salon System Treatment with Take-Home Masks
Composio is a professional range from DEMI Cosmetics that brings together hair science and DEMI’s own fixation technology, known as Complex. The name comes from “composite”, meaning something made up of several elements.
This guide focuses on Composio EQ, the range’s salon system treatment: how the salon items work together, the Basic and Quick menus, how to choose between the S, A and G types, and the take-home EQ Masks. Composio / ComposioPro and Composio Hair Care will be covered in separate articles.

Where Composio EQ Fits in the Composio Range
Composio is made up of three lines, each with a different role. Each line can be chosen on its own to suit the service and the client.
What Is Composio EQ?
Composio EQ is a system treatment for salon professionals. It is designed to care for the inside of the hair and condition its surface, aiming for three qualities DEMI considers essential to beautiful hair: shine, manageability and moisture. EQ stands for Essential Quality.
Inside the hair, EQ uses DEMI’s Complex technology to help fix care ingredients in place and make them hydrophobic. On the surface, it forms an Amino Shield, a cuticle-like layer that helps smooth and condition the hair. DEMI combines the two in a system designed to help maintain the hair’s hydrophobic properties.
The Composio EQ Salon Range
Joint, Fix and Effect
These items have different roles within the EQ treatment system. Joint and Fix work on the inside of the hair, while Effect prepares the hair for the Shield step.
Composio EQ Joint C 200g
Rich, long-lasting foam, created with DEMI’s AFF (after-forming foam) technology, supplies cortex care ingredients and helps them bind to damaged areas inside the hair.
- Key ingredients: hydrolysed keratin, a high-penetration amino acid derivative, eight amino acids and hydrolysed eggshell membrane.
Composio EQ Fix 450g
Forms a complex with the ingredients supplied by Joint, making them hydrophobic and helping fix them inside the hair. Supplied as a 450g refill.
- Key ingredients: ceramide 2 and cationised hydrolysed keratin.
Composio EQ Effect 200mL
Replenishes CMC and creates the base on which Shield works.
- Key ingredients: isostearoyl hydrolysed silk and a phytosterol-like ingredient.
Basic and Quick Menus
In the Basic menu, Joint and Fix are followed by a rinse before Effect and Shield are applied. After pre-shampooing and towel-drying, the Quick menu uses Effect followed by Shield. The process chart below shows both menus, DEMI’s guide amounts for each step and the Shield and Mask types.

Shield S, A and G: Choosing the Finish
All three Shields work with the ingredients supplied by Effect to form an Amino Shield, helping smooth and condition the hair surface. They share 18-MEA derivative, LMA and ceramide 2. What differs is the finish and the hair each type is suited to, as shown in DEMI’s guide. Each type also has its own featured ingredient, shared with the Mask of the same type.
Composio EQ Shield S B 450g
Smoothing type. Suited to fine or soft hair, short to medium-length styles and lightly damaged hair.
- Featured ingredient: cationised chitosan.
Composio EQ Shield A A 450g
Hydrating type. Suited to medium-textured hair, medium to semi-long styles and moderately damaged hair.
- Featured ingredient: sodium hyaluronate.
Composio EQ Shield G A 450g
Rich moisturising type. Suited to coarse or naturally wavy/curly hair, semi-long to long styles and highly damaged hair. Depending on hair type, the finish may feel sticky; if so, shampoo once before finishing.
- Featured ingredient: avocado oil.
Fix and the three Shields are supplied as 450g refills. The Composio EQ 550g Case is an empty refill container compatible with Fix and all three Shield types.
Composio EQ Masks: Continuing Care at Home
Composio EQ Masks are take-home intensive care masks designed to help clients maintain their EQ salon finish at home. Use about once a week as a guide. Each 50g tube provides approximately 4–5 uses, depending on hair length and the amount used. Various care ingredients help replenish the inside of the hair, while 18-MEA derivative helps smooth the surface. DEMI presents them as professional products offered to clients through a stylist’s counselling.
The Masks come in the same three types as the Shields. In the process chart above, each Mask sits alongside the Shield of the same type, so clients can continue at home with the finish chosen in the salon.

How Clients Use the Mask at Home
DEMI’s EQ leaflet gives clients these steps, which salons can share when recommending a Mask:
- After shampooing, lightly remove excess water.
- Spread the Mask in the palms and work it through the hair, focusing on the ends. As a guide, use about 6g for short hair, 9g for medium-length hair and 12g for long hair.
- Work it in from the ends, wrapping the hair in the hands, and leave for about 5 minutes.
- Rinse gently, without rubbing the hair.
